Homework Day 3: Writing Longer
Readings Due Before Class:
- Winterson: start section 2 (Villanelle)
Assignments Due Before Class:
- Journal: observation/description of an "interesting"
story you've heard or seen; or a bit of language/dialogue you hear
or see; or some prose descriptions of people/objects/settings around you; or some deep philosophical issues you
are intensely engaged with (things you could bring into your fiction
writing). You should be doing 3 or more entries each week (but
who's counting). This isn't something you will turn in, but must
be able to show me evidence of for the Midterm and Final.
- 1st Story Draft on disk and/or emailed to yourself: since we're reading novels in this class, this might be a good time to make yourself push in to longer stories or even the start of a novel, so this assignment might be chapter 1. If you want to be more plot/idea focused in your process, you can try writing a novel outline before you start ("what next?" should be your guiding question, even if it leads to the absurd).
