Welcome to the Battle of Maldon Information and Translation Pages

The Battle of Maldon web is intended to inform people about many important aspects of this heroic poem from the 10th century AD.  The original Manuscript was Part of Robbert Cotton's Anglo-Saxon manuscript collection and was burned in the Cotton Library fire of at Ashburnham House in 1731. Luckily the 325 lines we have of the poem had been transcribed before the time of the fire.

These pages are the outgrowth of interest in Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Saxon translation amongst the students at Utah Valley University.

The Battle of Maldon Pages at UVU have been created by Ian Mounteer with support from Dr. Rick McDonald.  These pages testify to the dedicated work undergraduate students produce at Utah Valley University.
