This page contains a few words and a number of pictures of some motorcycling outings, primarily on tracks.

A lap of the full track at MMP seen from a camera mounted on the tank of my bike. Its a little murky because I forgot to clean my windscreen and windows media player ate some of the resolution. It should play in Windows Media Player if you just click on it, but if not you'll have to right click on it and save it to your computer - no video streaming here. Its about 15mb. In the video, I'm trying to be nice to the other riders by giving them lots of room because they are customers at the Labor Day Apex Trackdays event. The video was shot with a Hero GoPro camera available from Trackstar1.com for about $170. For the money, the system rocks - the quality is not far off of high-end lipstick camera systems that go for $800.

WERA endurance team: (left to right) Matt Spencer (mechanic), Kory Cowan (rider), Jason Eldredge (pit crew chief), me, Scott Larsen (Michelin tire supplier), Shane Turpin (rider), Patrick Lansu (rider), and Don Roberts (pit crew & machined quick wheel-change parts) is missing (i.e., off drinking free beer). June, 2008.

The bike is 2008 Ducati 848 set up for racing. The 848 was new for 2008; its an "L" twin that displaces 849cc and makes 120 hp at the rear wheel and about 65 ft-lbs of torque on pump gas (125+ on race gas, probably over 150hp at the crank). It has a full Leo Vince exhaust and a Power Commander on it, with a couple different maps made by Matt Spencer at Salt Lake Motorsports. It had 25mm Ohlins inserts in the forks and an Ohlins TTX shock in the back courtesy of Jason Eldredge at Corporate Suspension. It also had all the usual race parts on it, including rearsets, quick shifter, short throw throttle, GP-style shifting and a 520 kit. But most importantly, we had a custom oversized aluminum tank made and fitted it with a dry-break system for rapid and safe refueling. The tank held 5.5 gallons and allowed us to ride over an hour between pit stops. The dry-break system enable us to safely dump 5 gallons into the tank in a few seconds. The bike was raced in the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains road racing series at Miller Motorsports Park and selected WERA Grand National Endurance events. Salt Lake Motorsports, Corporate Suspension, Apex Trackdays and Fastline Racetire (the local Michelin tire vendor) provided generous sponsorship help that helped us to win the Mediumweight Superbike class and place 5th overall at round 4 of WERA's National Endurance Series, and to win the Endurance and Twins GTO Championships in the Masters of the Mountains back-to-back in 2008 and 2009.

Below is a photo of me and my endurance teammate Kory Cowan behind my bike, and our Apex Trackdays brethren Skylar Nielson and Travis Child. The photo was taken after the endurance race in the second round of the 2007 Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains race series at Miller Motorsports Park. Kory and I won the endurance GTU class and Travis and Skylar had won endurance GTO. At the end of the season we each took our respective class championships, and Kory and I won the overall championship ahead of Travis and Skylar. image

This is a shot of me at an Apex Trackday. I work as a staff rider for them, keeping an eye on things out on the track, working with customers that have questions about their riding and just doing laps for fun.

This was taken at Reno-Fernely Raceway on May 6, 2006. It is without a doubt the bumpiest track I have ridden yet. At times I wished I had brought my DRZ!

In this section is video of me riding the track at Pahrump, and a map of the track.

Video of me riding one lap of Pahrump on 12.11.05, 3mb. Begins with me passing the paddock on the front straight. The video was shot and produced by my friend Kory. Thanks Kory!

Video of two laps of Pahrump on 10.30.05, higher resolution, 12mb. Begins just before turn 9.

Same video as above, but low resolution, 5.5mb

Here is a photo taken during qualifying for the Laguna Seca MotoGP, July 9th, 2005. I think its Nicky Hayden, but I don't recall for sure. Lots of fun!

This is my FZ1 parked on Sonora Pass - the second highest and undoubtedly the steepest, over the Sierra Nevada in California. I rode out for the MotoGP race, and to visit friends and family. It was a fantastic trip.

Some photos from the Monster at Miller Motorsports Park on 9/18/05

Almost dragging that titanium muffler.

The following photos are from the first day of hot laps at the new $50-million Miller Motorsports Park. Nothing but construction vehicles had been on it up until this day. MMP asked some folks from the Utah Sports Bike Association to come out and join in the fun and work of laying some rubber down and deciding where the curbing should go in.

The vehicles lined up and ready to go. Check out the banking on the entrance to the s/f straight.

That’s Alan Wilson, track designer and CEO, sweeping while some helpful USBA guys.... help? LHM, in the yellow shirt, looks on. His Cobra sprung a little leak.

‘How fast do you think I can get my Duc around this track?’ ‘Sky's the limit.’
